Pedoclimatic Environment
The area in which Morellino di Scansano is produced, comprises a hilly area in the province of Grosseto. The soil is particularly varied though it is in large part characterised by a sequence of sedimentary rocks (flysch) mostly composed of scaly Pliocene clays, rich in small stones (pietrisco).
Grape Varieties
Up to 85% Sangiovese, Other authorized red grape varieties may be added, either individually or together, up to 15%.
COLOUR
Intense ruby red with violet tones tending to garnet red with aging.
Characteristics
This wine is well balanced and dry, with good structure and a velvety texture and noble tannins. Intense and lasting bouquet slightly spicy.
Gastronomic Combinations
This wine is a particularly suitable accompaniment to hearty soups, games, grilled and roasted red meats and mature cheeses.
Serving Temperature
Serve at a temperature of 18°-20° C.
Wine Making Process
In red, with 15-20 days steeping on skins in stainless steel tanks followed by ageing for 15-18 months in oak casks. Refiniment in bottle before release.
