ALBORENSE
Our Morellino di Scansano DOCG is the product that par excellence represents the Maremma and Le Chiantigiane has created a Morellino that stands out for its excellent quality, Morellino di Scansano DOCG Alborense.
This is the result of the experience and passion for wine of the enologist and director Maurizio Cremonini Bianchi, the enologist Giorgio Marone, and of the history of this cooperative winery in the Maremma.
Nature, history and culture work together to give this wine an added value.
This area’s millennial history, its rich artistic and architectural patrimony make it one of the most famous in Italy. The Abbey of San Rabano is one of the most important medieval sites in Europe. The bell tower still dominates the ruins of the abbey and it is the form of this structure that gave us the idea for the realization of the bottle of Morellino Alborense DOCG, infact it has the same truncated cone shape of the belfry.
Morellino di Scansano DOCG Alborense nasce here, from this history and patrimony architectural and the labels on the bottles and wine boxes show a 1713 map of the area, authorized by the Archivio di Stato.
There are over 53 hectares of vines grown using an integrated method of production with a limited use of chemical substances, and the exposition of the vines to the sea and protected by the surrounding woods. This all goes to create a unique product, giving the grape an absolutely original bouquet.
The vineyard looks out onto an extraordinary landscape, hills, Mediterranean scrub, the mountains of the Uccellina and the sea in the background.
Recently, around 13 hectares of vines were planted to create a new vineyard. This stands out for the perfect incorporation in the hilly environment with its favourable exposition.
The excellent quality of the wine comes from the low-intensity production per plant and per hectare, with a density of production of around 6,000 vines per hectare with rows at 2.20 metres. The rows are grown 70 cm from the ground to boost the maturation of the grapes.
Morellino di Scansano DOCG Alborense comes from these vines, in the microclimate of the Maremma, an area that has always been generous with wine, especially reds.
Sunshine for the greater part of the year, the beneficial effect of the sea, and the hills protecting the vineyard, give the red wine a great structure, rich in polyphenols, extracts and glycerine, all basic ingredients for a full-bodied wine, perfumed, elegant, persistent and with particular longevity.
